Meet Our People

Wei Gao
Special Guest Instructor

Ms. Gao, pen name Yellow-hair Girl (nickname for little girl), graduated from the Applied Arts Department of the Xi'an Beaux-Arts Institute. She is the director of the General Office, and a member of the board, at the Shenzhen Association of Artists. Ms. Gao is also the vice-chairperson of the Shenzhen Society of Exlibris and a member of the Guangdong Provincial Association of Artists.

Since 2003, Ms. Gao's works have been published at Beaux Arts, Hainan Daily and Shenzhen Special Zone Daily. Her works have also been shown around China. In October 2004, her "Scenes by a Lake" received the Price of Excellence at the 2nd New Century Exhibition of Beaux Arts of Hainan. In November 2004, her other "water-ink" painting, "A Village in the Mountains" was collected by the Beijing University. Ms. Gao was invited to Paris National Gallery to give her solo exhibition, and she has also exhibited her works at the Korean Cheng Yi Zhai Gallery.



Maggie Law
Instructor

Ms. Law graduated from the renown Hua Nan Normal University in China with a degree in Chinese Literature. She had taught in the Language Department of the Guangzhou Normal School for years before she moved to the U.S. Ms. Law is currently writing for different New York Chinese newspapers and magazines.

Besides her literary achievements, Ms. Law is also a multi-talented artist. She is the owner of Maggie Studio, Inc. An award-winning painter, Ms. Law studied under masters such as Ronald Sherr, Burt Silverman and Carlos Castanno. She is a member of the Portrait Society. Ms. Law has also worked as a professional photographer for over ten years.

Ms. Law has years of teaching experiences working with children and adults of all ages.



Selina Law
Instructor/President

Ms. Law has a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Education Degree. She has acquired Texas Teacher Certifications in Math (grades 1-12) and in Business (high school). Ms. Law has worked in the field of education for over 15 years in both teaching and administration. Her students range from ages 2 to 65.

Ms. Law has many years of experiences organizing events. Her cultural functions are always fun, interesting and educational.

A member on the Steering Committee of the Chorus of Communities in New Jersey, Ms. Law has deep appreciation for music and all forms of arts. Ms. Law is also the president of a tea company, Screen Tea, Inc.



Jennifer Wen Ma
Special Guest Instructor

One of the winners of the 30th Annual Sports Emmy Awards in the Outstanding Live Event Turnaround category -- Games of the XXIX Olympiad NBC, Ms. Ma was a member of the Core Creative Team for the planning of the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. She also held the position of Chief Designer of Visual and Special Effects for all four ceremonies.

Ms. Ma holds a Master of Fine Arts Degree from the Pratt Institute. She has been an active contemporary artist internationally, showing in Europe, Asia and the U.S., including prestigious institutions such as: the Guggenheim Museum in New York, and the National Art Museum of China in Beijing, among others. Kiera Skiff
Instructor

With great love of singing and making music, Ms. Kiera Skiff has been involved in music in many ways since childhood: from stage performer – to coach – to teacher – to scout – to manager of international opera artists. Ms.Skiff teaches a vocal technique that is usable for classical, pop, Broadway – any style! The goal is to sing beautifully! Her particular enjoyment is working with young singers.

Ms. Skiff holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Texas.


Spencer Wan
Instructor

Mr. Wan is a New York State certified Math and Bilingual (Chinese) teacher and school administrator. Mr. Wan has a Master of Science Degree in Education, with focuses on curriculum and instruction and educational technologies. He has worked in the field of education for over 25 years. He has worked in both teaching and in administration. Mr. Wan has also been working as a consultant for the New York State Department of Education in evaluating Mandarin teachers in their Certification Examinations. He is currently the Co-Director of Instruction at a New York City public middle school.

Mr. Wan has practiced Tai Chi Chuan for over 20 years. He has been teaching this art for years to young people and adults in different settings. Mr. Wan is fluent in both Mandarin and Cantonese.



Hua Chi Wang
Instructor

Ms. Wang is a Level Five (5th Wushu Duan) Tai Chi master and has won three silver medals at international competitions in China. Her biography can be found in The Biographies of Chinese Tai Chi Masters - Book 2. Ms. Wang's solid foundation in Tai Chi is supplemented by her education in traditional Chinese medicine.

Ms. Wang has taught Tai Chi for over eighteen years, training her students in the Yang Style, Chen Style, Zhaobao Style and traditional Chi Gong.
